Starrett company in Athol, MA until it became obvious to everyone but me that I was gay.\u00a0 Company said &#8220;Seek treatment for your condition or else.&#8221;\u00a0 So I did.\u00a0 Didn&#8217;t work out the way Starrett&#8217;s planned.\u00a0 The APA had removed or was about to remove homosexuality from their list of treatable (billable?) illnesses.\u00a0 I like me just the way I am so I moved to New Hampshire in 1976.<br \/>\nIn 1984 my motorcycle was truck from behind in a hit and run accident.<div id=\"attachment_29\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/arts-attic.com\/blog\/?attachment_id=29\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-29\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29\" src=\"http:\/\/arts-attic.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/face-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Me lying on my back in a Stryker frame with tension on my head.\" title=\"Stryker framed traction\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-29\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-29\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Not a pretty start.<\/p><\/div><br \/>\nI spent a week and one half in the Eliot being flipped with a pancake and having the sheet peeled from my back.
